OT: Celtics

If the Celtics can get to the ECF without Irving and Hayward, do they really need them, especially when they cost 51% of the salary cap?

Yeah I think they do. They can't pay everyone and while Smart makes some big plays on defense for them they can let him walk for his pay day. Rozier is heading for a big pay day too and while you'd hate to lose him Kyrie is just better and I think at that point you want to keep the best players you can.

5 of top 7 scorers from last year's Celtics team weren't on the team this year. The 2 projected best players on this year's team were not in the playoffs. Stevens is a coaching good.

Tatum is playing at the same level as Hayward's career average.  Although not nearly as good as Hayward's peak season of last year.  So not much is lost without Hayward.

Boston's best players last year were Isaiah and Jae Crowder, followed by Horford.

They were well replaced by Kyrie and Tatum's production, followed by Horford.

It's mostly good GMing and scouting.  Their coach is good, but he didn't create Kyrie and Tatum.

They don't need Hayward with Tatum and Brown on the wing.  A couple of high draft picks working out.

Bingo, Ainge has done a great job putting that roster together. Stevens gets way too much credit.

Ainge and Stevens appear to be the best coach/gm combination in the league. Funny to look at last years roster compared to this years and even with the injuries this one looks better. Stevens has had an uncanny ability to get production above career levels from a lot of guys. I can't think of many guys leaving them and playing better elsewhere.

I was thinking if the Celtics get by the Cavs and reach the finals, would they entertain this summer in trading Kyrie?

I dont think Irving is going anywhere. Rozier is having a great playoffs, but isnt proven enough to make that type of commitment to and him Irving can play at the same time some as well. Irving is still young was having a very good regular season before he got hurt. If the Celtics can afford being a very deep team, they will continue to do because that depth allows them to be successful even when injuries happen.

Let me try to understand this thinking.... Kyrie is having the best year of his career...shooting, rebounding, phenomenal efficiency...arguably playing at a superstar level and a top-10 level and the best player on his team...up to 2 years left on his contract at a fair value...and the idea on the table is to trade him?

Huh?

Would anyone really be shocked if Ainge traded him? It's such an Ainge move. Kyrie is coming off two knee surgeries - who knows if he'll ever be the same again? And the Celtics aren't missing a beat without him. I could see a team like the Suns getting suckered into trading the farm for him.

He’s had a couple of knee injuries.. it would be smart by the C’s to move him instead of giving him a max contract.. they are in great position either way. Rozier is good enough..

I'd be shocked if they traded Kyrie, he's nothing like the other guys they have traded who were either way past their prime or being propped up by a good coach.

Now, the Celtics have a great shot at making the Finals without Kyrie and Hayward. So much for Doc Rivers not wanting to stick around during their rebuild era.

I'm thinking the same thing. If the Celtics get past the Cavs Ainge will probably see what he could get for Kyrie or Hayward.. especially Kyrie. Teams are always loading up on wings these days. Plus if they make the Finals with this current squad egos will be inflated. I highly doubt Rozier is not going to want to become a backup to Kyrie and come off the bench next season. Maybe he gets moved to be a starter somewhere else if the Celtics stick to Kyrie. If they make the Finals somebody is getting moved on draft night. Book it
