Kupchack, Buss out. Magic in

I see this ending badly for the Lakers. I actually thought Kupchak was a good GM. He's drafted very well over the years and never rushed into a bad trade. I don't get these teams firing guys in the middle of a rebuild when you know that's what it is. Hinkie is looking more and more of a genius every day. Lakers have a nice young core too, you don't want to start going for win now moves.

I loved the interview, where in praising his own experience and background, he adds:  "I could have run the Knicks.  But instead, I recommended Isiah."   (Apparently, he believes that's indicative of the skills he would bring to his new job).   A genial, likable, blowhard, who was also a great player.

I think Shaq and Kobe got Payton and Malone to sign for nothing

I think Johnson is going to be another Vivek or Isiah Thomas in terms of management.

These are great!   The most interesting question for me is which will come first:   a bone-headed trade, or a major fine for tampering?    I just can't believe EJ will be able to keep that prodigious mouth shut, as his new job requires.

Johnson wasn't as good as Bird as a player, and I don't think he will be as a Team President.

Who cares if Johnson is a glossier talker.

Bird is more honest.

Jimmer Fredette scored 73 points in game just a couple days ago.

Why didn't you make a "Chinese League Little Man Showdown" thread?

Chinese League Big Man Showdown

Also, Magic was motivated to say he liked Fredette because both were part of the Dove "Men + Care" March Madness campaign.

I think Magic would def be bad if he doesn't listen to his GM and thinks he can make whatever moves he wants, but I think hiring a GM who seems like a pretty knowledgable guy will save him from making the disaster moves that Brooklyn and Sacramento have been making. Magic can work as a figurehead, but you need a cap specialist and someone that doesn't agree to throw ins that look minor, but turn out to be devastating. I think Pelinka will save him from himself when it comes to that

I agree, but Magic has said explicitly that he wants to run things.   They may be able to make him a figurehead, but I don't think that's what he has in mind (if what he says is indicative of what's going on in his head).

Magic will try and bring in a star player... I really don't think he cares about the young players that they have... His mindset is old school.

They might bring in a star player, but they still won't win much because Magic might screw up the rest of the roster.

I really doubt that young players in the NBA (star or otherwise) are as much in awe of Magic Johnson as he himself is.   He retired when most of them were 3 or 4 years old.   Maybe they caught that great year when he was a player-coach?

If Antetokounmpo didn't even know who Jason Kidd was (his head coach), then yeah, these current players won't know too much about Magic other than a few highlights.

"You're the guy who owns those movie theaters and a few TGI Friday's, right?"

lol these are gold worthy! I don't know which one should be my favorite. Maybe the Rondo makes Dallas a contender tweet. Or the Fredette is the real deal tweet? thanks Nuraman00 for grabbing those out.

Magic said that about Fredette because both he and Fredette were part of the Dove (health product company) "Men + Care" ad campaign.

Johnson seems to be one of those people that thinks more about the player, then whether their contract is good value.

He'll also place an overemphasis on pedigree as opposed to how that player is right now.
