If we do trade for Kawhi, we need to move some salary around to make that team competitive so Gallo needs to be sent out too. Otherwise a team with Kawhi, DJ and the rest of the role players isn't going to be close to a contender still assuming Harris is also gone in that deal. It'll be interesting to see what we'd be able to do.

Story sounds really out of character for Kawhi. I wonder if his uncle is leaking all of this bs. If Leonard wanted LA why wouldn't he just tell the Spurs. San Antonio now has way less leverage and a trade harder for them.

i think the deal will be tobias, both picks and evans. Evans was projected in the 1st rd last year and despite his injury may be of some interest

That is pretty much the best offer we can put together that doesn't involve an opted in DJ.

Harris plus 12 and 13 is not a great offer unfortunately. We are not gonna have enough firepower to get this deal done unless we can include DJ or get a third team involved to give the Spurs more assets.

I feel the opposite.   As good as Kawhi is, 2 mid level #1's and a good player (Harris) is too much.  WE can keep the 2 draft picks and shed some bad contracts and see this process through.  NO SHORTCUTS!  No one thought the Jazz would be that good last year, they struck gold on a late 1st round draft pick, we could do the same!

The draft picks are more valuable to SAS. They can control those players for eight years and they know how to develop. Harris is a free agent next year. Who knows where he wants to play and/or if SAS thinks he is a max player.

Ramona Shelburne: Within the last week the Lakers contacted the Spurs to discuss a Kawhi Leonard trade. As one source put it, “they basically shut the door on us.”

Jerome Robinson feels like a Spurs pick, maybe we are getting Kawhi after all (at least I hope)

That’s my hope as well. We might just be drafting with the Spurs/Kawhi deal in mind.

Spurs have plenty of defensive deficient players, they rely more on a system and Robinson seems like a system type player. Lonnie Walker does not seem like a Spurs type pick either, but maybe they're rolling the dice on talent.

Maybe Walker coming back to us and Spurs wanted some offense and had us pick Robinson for them.

I think the only way we get Kawhi is if he refuses to sign an extention and we sign him as a free agent next year.

If he gets traded to a good eastern conference team like the Celtics he will sign an extension in all likelihood. They can offer him more money than any other team. This is all just posturing on his part right now.

No shit Steven A but once again...the Spurs will likely have to trade Kawhi at the break or sooner and if the Clips want him they’d better be in position to snatch him then. That’s the point of this thread...some kind of DJ/ Tobias package to Spurs is what we can do and the Spurs need a center like DJ. Kawhi wants LA and the Spurs don’t want to trade with the Lakers. Our rookies aren’t in play with Spurs drafting big time guard prospects. All points that lead to DJ. Makes sense to me.

I’ve kept saying no way West/Ballmer would want to be 2nd fiddle to the Lakers. Kawhi and PG13?

There's no way the Spurs take our package without at least one of the rookies involved. They could have had both picks at the draft I'm sure so not sure what would have changed. The Spurs would also be wise to keep using us to drive up offers from other teams

They don’t want our rookies. Theirs are arguably almost as good and both are guards. They have Murray as well. I don’t think our rookies would be included.

Sure we’d likely add anyone but The Spurs don’t need and probably don’t want our rookies. They never would’ve drafted the way they did if they wanted our rookies. I’m not saying that our guards aren’t better but they don’t need three or four rookie guards that were that highly regarded. It’s not like they didn’t look forward.

I gotta say, I've always loved Kawhi's game, always thought he had all the attributes of a genuine all of famer, without question.

But I gotta say also, I am very uncomfortable with what happened between him and the Spurs. There is probably much none of us know, and none of us will know for quite some time. We can only speculate. But the Spurs have been a stellar oragnization, and pop has been a hugely respected and succesful coach -- probably at least as respected and succesful as Red Auerbach, and arguably more. And after years and years and years of doing everything right, winning consistently, producing superstar after superstar who have each been loyal and have loved both the organization and the coach, when a conflict emerges between a player and the organization, and you don't know all the facts and you have to fill in the blanks, then I fill in the blanks in favor of the clear track record. If I have to speculate, then I side with then Spurs against Kawhi in my speculation.

That whole kawhi situation just doesn't smell good to me.

I love his game, too.  Although I view him a more of a complementary player, not as a supermax lead player.  He's great, and deserved his finals MVP award, but I think a big part of his offensive role is to stand in the corner as an outlet to shoot threes while teamates work the offense. I know he does a lot more than that, but he doesn't lead the offense. He's a max player, for sure. Supermax is a stretch. He was a top-5 player in the league, so it's debatable.

I think the situation smells because Kawhi made it smell.  Either because he wants out, or because he's an entitled bitch.  Players often start acting up when they want out. The Spurs and their players and ex-players respect the team first, so they didn't support his behavior.  They probably could of/should of been a  more supportive of Kawhi, sucked up a little, and this may have gone away.  That's not the Spurs culture, though. He's on a team where other players take discounts to keep the team strong.

Adrian Wojnarowski: The Spurs are fully engaged in trade talks with several teams on Kawhi Leonard, including the Lakers and Celtics, league sources tell ESPN. Boston has long had the assets that the Spurs most covet in a potential Leonard trade.

Marc Stein: This doesn’t guarantee Kawhi Leonard is going to the Lakers this week — since San Antonio could always trade him elsewhere and/or drag things out — but league sources say of the Spurs: “They’re ready” to move on from Kawhi

I think you might be underselling him, he is capable of being a lead player on offense now. The season before last he showed he was fully capable of being the main cog on offense.

But you also said he was a top 5 player and I'd say that the top 9-10 players are deserving of those super max deals. The injury/hold out situation is what makes it a little murky, but just based on ability I wouldn't have reservations of giving him the full super max.

“I want to be a champion,” George told Wade as the two sipped wine in Los Angeles. “In a way, it’s like, I want to come here, I want to play for the home team and put a Laker jersey on. That’s always gonna be something that I want to fulfill. But at the same time, it’s like, what’s the best move, though? I know who I am as a player. I just want to help the team win. And I feel comfortable doing so with Russ (Westbrook).”

I'd be very nervous making a deal for Kawhi now. Not only was he injured all year, but now he could go down the hall in a year? I don't see how our FO can take that chance. We have to protect our future now, give up on the present

Well in that case yeah I'd do that, but that would be the only way. I get the feeling he won't give that assurance to anyone other than the Lakers maybe though

So.... Probably not worth mentioning, but... Since we all seem to get boners over rumors...

Friend of mine, who has a friend who's close to the Clippers organization, told me that his friend told him that "West is trying to work a 3-way deal to get Leonard."

Take it for what it's worth (probably not much.)
