Dj wants to go to Houston?

DeAndre Jordan has reportedly told multiple players on the Rockets that he wants to sign with Houston this off-seasonhttps://t.co/Fbul3ip9RH?amp=1

Sign and trade for Capela works!

The question would be does Houston want DJ instead of Capela? Do we want to kill some of our cap space for Capela? What contract would Capela want?

Keep in mind, Capela has struggled with fatigue since he entered the league and he is once again another 56% free thrower.

I like Capela. I actually like DJ more than him though.

Capela was at 65.5% at the end of November, as pointed out by htownfan.

By late January, Capela was shooting 60.1%.

And from your post, he finished with 56%.

Wouldn't Capela be cheaper than DJ, assuming DJ is worth around 20M/year?

By definition we're talking about a sign and trade between the two players. Whatever you're talking about with DJ, that's what you're talking about with Capela, as neither team is under the cap.

What's a max salary for Capela? He's coming off a rookie contract. It's gotta be a lot less than what DJ will command, so the Clippers would need to throw in other players as well (i.e. Austin).

Extremely low chance of that.

It’s the other way around. If Capela signed for less the Rockets would have to include more to match DJ’s salary.

Not sure exactly but I think he's eligible for a regular max, which is 25% of  the salary cap. So that's about $25M/year.

Max for Capela is 25% of cap.  So about 25 million.  But because his salary will jump up he will be hit by BYC status.  So as far as trades go his 25 million salary will only count for 12.5 million for matching purposes.  Here is the tricky part, the matching salary has to be at least 75% of DJ's contract but actual incoming salary can't exceed 125%.  This is why trading BYC players is difficult.

You're right. Sorry. I had spaced out for a second.

Capela's value is based on his efficiency rolling to the basket in the pick-and-roll offense that D'Antoni runs.  You need a good point guard to run that system.  Like Steve Nash, James Harden, or Chris Paul.  Our point guards would render Capela next best thing to worthless on offense since he can't shoot the three and can't make his free throws.  No way would he be worth the max to us.  A player like Harrell who does not rely on the pick-and-roll would be worth more to us than Capela.  So even if Houston does make a play for DJ we don't want Capela coming back at a maximum salary.  Rebuild next season by developing rookies then see what we can do in free agency next summer.

Yeah, even if we can figure out a trade that works, I don't think I want to be paying Capela all that money. Harrell can be stop-gap center for half the price tag.

Well, if Milos plays a full season he'd make a lot of great plays with Capela. Or DJ. Or he could be hurt a lot

Neither are worth anything close to max money.
