They are going to pay him AND CP3. Side note: If we end up with Gallo and Ryan Anderson on our roster at the beginning of next season I may boycott..

Jerry West won't let this happen.. And I'm sure the Rockets prefer Capela over DJ

Rockets have no real trade assets.  Capela is a free agent.  He would have to agree to sign with us.  (Why would he?)  On top of that, there are rules in the CBA that would make it hard to complete a sign and trade.  Capela would be flagged with the BYC status.

This article is total clickbait by the writer just putting 2 and 2 together from Houston being his hometown and previously playing with CP3 and the fact that the Clippers that were injury riddled missed the playoffs. The only way for DJ to get to Houston is by pulling a CP3 and opting in. Also, there is no way that Houston has the pieces necessary to land DJ via trade. This would have to somehow be a 3 team trade where the Rockets would send Gordon and someone or Anderson to a 3rd team.

Why would he? To get paid and live in the best city in America. Capela’s desire to sign with us isn’t the issue, on the other hand Houston’s desire to take DJ instead of Capela seems like it may be a stretch given their age, similar games and similar salary demands. Capela would likely be thrilled to come here.

DJ also said he wants to remain a Clipper for his entire career.  And he said that after the afore mentioned Rockets game.  I think if he could get a big contract from the Rockets he would sign with them.  But he isn't going there for the veteran's minimum and backing up Capela which is what he would have to do to land there.  Its a business in the final analysis.  He will go wherever he can make the most money since he is still in his prime and still wants to play big minutes.  All things being equal he stays with us.  Somebody offers him more money he leaves.

I could see the Rockets preferring Jordan over Capela for durability and fitness reasons.  During the playoffs a lot of people were asking why Capela wasnt playing more minutes and part of the that might be that just doesnt have motor for it.

Actions speak louder than words. DJ can tell the media all the nice-sounding platitudes he wants, but he blatantly mailed it in on the season after the Blake trade. If it's true that he was telling his teammates about how much he wanted to play for the Rockets next year, even while his current team was busy competing for a playoff spot, then good riddance.

I agree, think that DJ is the superior force, and given his age and upside, hope that a trade for Capela could be facilitated. I just have to wonder if Houston would pull the trigger.

Do you mean Capela's age and upside are why you'd want the trade?

Yes...I guess I could have made that clearer.

Houston won't try anything with DJ until they make a full run at Paul George, Lebron, or other premier player, which they can do while keeping Capella on the RFA leash. And if they did try fir DJ, they would likely want whoever is cheaper between him and Capella

Given the only way to get DJ would be a trade (they don't have the cap to make a free agent offer) there is no "cheaper".

And given teams will likely immediately make offers on Capela, I am not sure they have much luxury in trying for other players, though there will be some.

They may have a problem.

They would have to have dj opt in and find a 3rd team to take ryan anderson and give us something valuable. gonna be hard to do.

Yeah, they're wearing the ryan anderson shackles.  That's near impossible.

Maybe GM Doc would have taken him because, hey, jumpshots
