Well second to last game and we are playing to uphold the integrity of the league by trying to knock off one of the playoff contenders in the Pelicans.  So we have to go as hard as we can at them.  This morning we were +6 on the line so the bookies don't like us to win this one.  Turns out Jordan has been playing on a bad ankle the last two months which has limited his mobility.  He has played through the pain but according to reports it is still swelling up.  Let's play the young guys big minutes and let the Pelicans win if they are not up to doing it on their own.  Play Boban big minutes.  Play CJ big minutes to celebrate his new contract.  Play Wallace instead of Austin.  Give the crowd a good game to reward them for a trying season.  Rest DJ and Harris a lot.

Spread is now -8.5.  We must be throwing this game.  Everybody betting on the Pelicans.  I get the feeling we are not going to cover that but who knows.

Marjanovic won't play big minutes.  Just a prediction.

He's played 2 minutes so far today.

Coaches just don't like playing him for some reason.  It doesn't matter the time, score, situation, standings, etc.

The Clippers could be playing a Gasol-less Grizzlies team, and he probably still wouldn't get playing time.

Too bad he can't sign with the Raptors.  If Valanciunas gets in foul trouble, send him in.  Maybe he can replicate Biyombo's 26 rebound game in the playoffs from 2016, and scare his opponent.

I want him to be productive for the Clippers, but I also want to see him get good playing time.  So if he can go to a competitive team that would give him playing time, it would be fun to see him in meaningful games.

He's playing his ass off out there trying to compete with Davis and it's been mostly to really good results. I just don't get why he'd get 2 minutes to DJ's 16 in the first half when we are out of it and Deandre is playing on a bad ankle. What better time to see what you have. He is playing heavy minutes here in the 2nd half finally, but he'll basically be getting 20 minutes with almost all of it consecutive.

Just checked the box score.  You are right, he ended up getting minutes in the second half.

He was one of the better players in +/- again, even though no Clipper was great.

9 rebounds in 14 minutes, and he made his FTs.

Since you watched the game, and you said he did a reasonable job against Anthony Davis, that's also a good sign.

I wish he could be a regular part of the rotation.

As in, either late in the first, or somewhere in the 2nd, he should be getting playing time.

Then in the second half, find a similar regular opportunity.

If DeAndre or Harrell are playing well for a specific game, maybe you ride them that game, but in general, Marjanovic should be playing at least 3 out of 5 games, no matter who the opponent is.

Funny.  He played 54 games as a rookie, 35 games last year, and 38 games this year (counting today).

His games played should be going up, not down.

Something like 54 games as a rookie, 61 games next year, 64 games the following year.  On a team with either Aldridge, Pau, Drummond, and DeAndre Jordan.

If he were on a team without an All-Star big, he should be playing even more.

I haven't seen Marjanovic shoot FTs.  What does he do with his shot, that DeAndre can also use?

One of the reasons Bobi had limited mins in the first half was because he went out with a wrist injury that looked like it could have been a lot worse than it ended up being.  He played his ass off for the time he was in the game.

It turns out that 36 losses is going to be one to many to make the playoffs this year.  It is going to be 35 as the number.  TWolves or Nuggets will get their 36th loss on Wednesday night which will eliminate one of them.  Lucky for all the other 35 loss teams that one of them has to lose so there will be no tiebreakers.

Thornwell had a good game last night.  20 points on 14 shots with 5 boards and 7 assists.  Maybe he can be a starter next year if he works on his shot all summer.  We need a guy who can play some defense on the court for more minutes.  Austen is not a good defensive player regardless of what his reputation is.  Maybe better than Lou or Teodosic but not good by any means.  He needs to go back to the bench.  This game was not as close as the score would indicate.  Third quarter we went five or six possessions without even getting a shot attempt in that the Pelicans were long enough to block the shots of all the rookies we had on the court.  I think they let up when they had a 22 point lead just so the game would look entertaining.  If the Pelicans had kept playing defense we would have been slaughtered.  Oh well.  Good that Alvin Gentry clinched a playoff spot.  Good to see our rookies get some run.

Who was a less impactful "star" this year Blake or Cousins? Both the Pistons and Clippers more or less treaded water after trading Harris and Griffin, but Pelicans have been a little better after losing Cousins to injury.

Pelicans traded for Mirotic who is a better fit in their offense than Cousins so there was no real dropoff in their play.  Cousins and Griffin are not that long and not that good on defense.  That is why they don't have that much impact on whether their teams win or lose.  To have a good team you need stops and defensive rebounding.  You need blocked shots and steals too.  And you need to stop the other team from getting easy points at the basket.  This Clippers team has proved you can't win if you can't stop the other team from scoring.  So many first quarters with 30 points allowed this year.  We could never score enough to keep up.  Only our bench with Lou and Harrell prevented us from being really bad this year and only winning 30 games or so.  Good we traded Blake because he was a lousy defender.  Same reason Pelicans probably will not resign Cousins.  Bad defender made worse by the injury.

Cousins can rebound.  Griffin's rebounding isn't good.  The Clippers have been poor at rebounding the past few years, and Griffin still couldn't get more rebounds, even though they weren't getting enough.  The Clippers were 28th in defensive rebound % in 2015-2016, for example, yet the guys they had didn't get more rebounds.

Rondo being hurt on again, off again, also hurt the Pelicans.

I'd like to see the Pelicans with Mirotic, Rondo, Davis, and Griffin.

The Pelicans are 24-18 when Davis and Cousins play.

When Cousins plays but not Davis, they are 3-3.

When Davis plays but not Cousins, they are 20-12.

They are 0-1 when neither play.

Again, I'd like to see them with Mirotic, Davis, Cousins, and Rondo together.

Mirotic has shot it worse with the Pelicans than any of his previous years.  It looks like his Defensive Win Shares, and his +/- are career lows with the Pelicans too.  So even he hasn't been playing as great as indicated.

But I think health is necessary for them to get into a rhythm defensively.

I was hoping for an OKC/GS 1st round match up, but because of the Denver/Minny play in game that can't happen now unless OKC loses and some other stuff happens. They are playing the super tanking Grizzlies though so there is no chance they lose, Golden State would have been in some trouble having to get by them without Curry.

With Butler back the Wolves could be a pretty dangerous lower seed if they beat Denver. They are 36-22 with him this year compared to 10-13 without. They were 3rd in conference when he got hurt.

I like Jokic individually, but they are not as interesting to me as Minnesota.

And that's with me not thinking much of Thibodeau and Butler before this year.

We have a tradition here at ClipperTalk and at the ESPN boards before ClipperTalk existed.

A bunch of people say, "This is the year for T-Wolves!"

I say, "No, it's not."

T-Wolves fail.

The people who said it was T-Wolves' year make some lame excuse for them failing.

Start of the next season, an bunch of people say, "This is the year for T-Wolves!"

And so on.

I am just upholding the tradition.

Minnesota isn't all that interesting to me yet either, but I do think they could show out a little better than Denver. Butler and Towns can play at a high level. Wiggins needs to learn how to play though, he's one guy I think of like Oladipo who has the tools to make a huge jump but doesn't utilize his game well at all. Even Towns can make huge strides on defense if he figures things out.
