More of Martin and Evans? They were bad tonight and they were a big part of why were outrebounded, Evans only had 1 rebound and if he's not doing that, what does he do? His pick and roll defense was also poor. Martin has been a poor rebounder all year.
We missed Butler, we had no real answer for Gay.
Mo Williams is still a terrible defender, especially at SG.
Too much Reggie when they weren't letting the game get physical.. Memphis got home cooking.. too many turnovers.. split the road games.. not bad.. game 3, lets go.. wish it were tomorrow.
VDN is a NBA guard... Some good points and true.....We do have many hurt players..Williams hurt his elbow, Young hurt his hand. With Butler now out, we are the walking wounded. I too like more Evans and K Mart.. VDN went big for a while, with Griffin, Eveans and K Mart, but then quickly changed. Simmons did fair at SF. We are going to miss Butler.

We were hurt bad by turnovers, Clippers lost 20-12... also in rebounding Clippers lost 28-37; with Offensive rebounds the big difference 4-16. Clippers got beat in steals 7-13.. But the biggest difference was in fouls and FT shooting Clippers lost big tine 17 fouls to 29 against Clippers, FT shooting Clippers with 13-18, Griz with 31-39... Wow, 21 extra FT in adding then 18 points to Griz.... Wow Refs, that looks really bad, un fair or unequal . Double the Griz points on Refs fouls and points.. Don't like blaming refs but this looks bad after watching an evenly hard fouls on both sides.. Calling one way mostly by refs it seems, with stats confirming

Not sure if I should feel content or upset. We've been outplayed most of the series, but its still 1-1. I'm probably in between. I liked how we came out, wasn't expecting a good start like that. But then we let it fizzle and the poor rebounding and TOs killed us. They got some calls for sure, but we still should have played better.
DJ is still as dumb as a rock (although he started the game really well). We need some contributions from others and some more penetrate and kick (VINNY STILL DON'T GET IT...?) to open up 3s for Foye/Mo/Young/Simmons. The defense is pretty lousy too. Just got to clean up the sloppiness.
It'll be interesting how coming home changes the series. We'll have a better idea then. We need both games and its crucial we keep our foot on the pedal for both games.

I'm seen a few negatives comment about Jordan, but he did fine last night. He was our best rebounder, blocked shots, scored some points and we outscored Memphis when he was on the floor. He only had one foul, he really should have played more. Foye played much better defense against Mayo than Williams and probably should have played more too. Young seemed to lack the strength needed to defend Gay, might need to try something different there, but all our options are pretty bad (more Martin at SF might be ok on defense against Gay, but I worry about our offense in that setup).
The Grizzlies are elite team at both forcing turnovers and offensive rebounding, so struggling in those areas isn't too surprising. A split on the road is still a good result for us though.

For as much as Jordan can't guard Gasol, Gasol hasn't exactly gone off on us. He only has 20 points combined in two games, right now I don't think he needs to be our main concern . Gay, Conley and Mayo have been much bigger problems, especially Gay and Gay is a guy that likes to take the ball to the basket, where we could use some help defense.
Obviously in game 1, Jordan was mediocre and Evans had a great game, but game 2, all our bigs played more like during the regular season, and we were most successful with Jordan on the floor. Evans is a likeable player and his execution if fine, but sometimes his physical limitation just catch up with him. Over the course of the season opposing teams had an eFG% of about 48% when Jordan or Martin was on the floor, but 54% when Evans was out there. Our perimeter defenders aren't good enough to shut teams down defensively without a good help defender. Martin is best defender of the group, but he's also a poor rebounder and offensive player, and it might also be worth giving him spot minutes at SF to defend Gay.
Jordan is also by far the best offensive player of the Evans/Martin/Jordan group and sometimes if you can't shut down another team, outscoring them will work (and in general that was the main way we won games this year, having an awesome offense).

Chris Paul has had a lot of fouls both games, which is out of the ordinary for him, my guess is he'll get it worked out though, but Conley had a done a great job of going at him aggressively. In general, our perimeter players had a lot of fouls last game and we also seemed to get in the penalty early at least a few quarters, this is something we should be able to correct, although both Simmons and Young foul a lot compared to Butler (and Foye). Bledsoe and Evans also foul a lot, so we might want to be careful with how we set up our lineup if we are have foul problems.

I actually I think Memphis is a tougher opponent for us than the Spurs. Not saying Memphis is a better team than the Spurs -- I think the Spurs would beat Memphis in seven games -- just saying the matchups are better for us against the Spurs. I don't really have time to explain the details of my thinking, I need to get ready to go to the airport, but simply speaking, DJ is less of a weak link for us against the Spurs than he is against Memphis. (Also, Bynum routinely eats up DJ as a snack and spits out the seeds, but that's another subject.)
