Carmelo for Gallo?

Adrian Wojnarowski@wojespn

Thunder are working on trade scenarios where Anthony, 34, would be moved as an expiring contract and be waived, becoming a free agent once his $28M clears waivers. OKC needs the Anthony’s permission to waive no-trade clause, which he has done to facilitate his exit, sources said.

Would be great if Thunder wanted Gallo.

We could dump him for Carmelo, then waive him so he could become a free agent.

Don't the Thunder want to get luxury tax relief out of this? Gallo would keep the luxury tax bill astronomical.

Yeah, now that I'm reading into it more, I think they want to just dump him to a team under the cap that can send back less salary. They'll probably have to give up a draft pick to do it.

If Carmelo is waived by the new team, who pays for his salary?

The team that waives him.

I think I saw that he was going to cost them around 70m. I don't think any team has cap space to take the whole thing, but I think some teams could maybe send out 10m while taking him back. You'd think that would be worth a pick to the Thunder to get out from under.

Yeah I think that is exactly what they are trying to do. No team is going to take his entire contract into cap space, but there are teams that could make an uneven deal where the Thunder at least same SOME money.

Why can't we edit posts if we were the thread starter? DT has got to fix that, it's annoying.

As long as we kick his cancer ass to the fucking curb after. Fuck that guy. I'm one of the few that's happy we didn't trade Austin for his ass.

It's been an issue from the beginning.

I brought it up again here:

Why can't I see the edit button in normal posts in this thread?

One of the absolute WORST players to have on your team: doesn’t help you win, and always seems to cost his team assets( draft picks or money) to get rid of his toxic butt.

But if we could get out from under Gallo’s deal and spread out Melo’s money, maybe worth exploring?

Gallo not expiring so we could not flip him for Carmelo.  Too bad Gallo is not a team option for next year.  That might have made it possible.  They are probably going waive Anthony then stretch Carmelo's salary into three years at 9.3 million a year and by doing that I think they save 60 million in luxury taxes or something like that.  Reason they can't flip him for Chandler Parsons, Ryan Anderson, etc... is those guys don't have expiring deals.  And nobody wants Carmelo as a straight expiring deal unless the Thunder are willing to take on bad contracts in exchange.  Which they don't want to do.  Prediction:  Anthony gets waived and stretch provision used to pay him off over three years.

Oklahoma City has agreed to trade Carmelo Anthony and a protected 2022 first-round pick to Atlanta for point guard Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala, league sources tell ESPN. Anthony will be waived, and he will join team of his choice. Rockets are frontrunner.

- woj (of course)

P.S. would suck to hear this news as a rocket fan

So it actually turns out, they would've taken on longer term salary just to reduce salary this season.

Well shit, I would have done this in a heartbeat although Schroeder is cheaper therefore more savings. We would have had to wait on a few signings I believe too. Anyways, I'm sure they'd rather have him than Gallo so probably nothing we could have done.

Hey if its on the cheap why not roll the dice??  Our offseason has kind of sucked..this will add a splash one way or another....somebody is gonna get injured this year so more scorers the better???

Isn't Schroder still facing a felony charge?  Good luck with that OKC.

Will Carmelo finally show he can transition into a role player? Having CP is big since he's probably one of 2-3 people in the world he'd probably listen to a little bit, but he seems like a guy who still views himself pretty differently than what he actually is. It can be disruptive when you have a guy like that in the locker room.

..............because he's a negative win producer. You would be better off just signing a CBA replacement level player who is younger with some upside and won't hurt your team as much.

He has a terrible attitude, doesn't play defense, doesn't play team ball, refuses to come off the bench, isn't a leader or a winner, etc. That's why.

The Rockets now have a team built around three selfish divas, none of whom show up in the playoffs, and two of whom don't play any defense. Just wait until the Warriors start leaving Melo wide open and begging him to chuck.

Uhh, I think they put that theory to rest last season. But ok.

I'd bet on Melo being better next season than he was last year.  Well, it would be hard to be worse.  He's embarrassed about being fat last year and he's going to work on that.

He'll still be Melo, though.
