TPE options for the Clippers

Dyce's picture

Now that JR Smith is not an option it is time to look at the trade market.  The Clippers have an opportunity to play vultures.  Time to prey on the weak and steal a good player off of a non-contender.

The Clippers have two trade exceptions.  One for $3,831,184 and another for $2,755,560.  Unfortunately they can't be combined.  So when talking about our TPE's, our limit is $3,831,184.  Note the only things that can be added to a TPE are cash or future draft picks.

Here are the list of wing players I think the Clippers could get for the TPE.

Reggie Williams - Bobcats - $2.5 million/2-years

He is currently starting with Henderson out with an injury.  Career .390 3P%.  I don't think he would be too hard to get, MJ loves money.

Austin Daye - Pistons - 1.9 mil/2-years

Not sure what is going on with this guy, but after two productive years he is now playing horrendous.  A change of team could be good for him.

Dorrell Wright - Warriors - 3.8 mil/2-years

Just fits in perfectly into our larger TPE.  Wright is starting for the Warriors, and I'm not sure how willing they are to give him up.  But he would be a great get.

Brandon Rush - Warriors - 2.9/Expiring

He is shooting 54% from 3.

Mike Dunleavy - Bucks - 3.7 mil/2 years

This guy would be the perfect role-player for us if his name wasn't Mike Dunleavy.

Carlos Delfino - Bucks - 3.5/expiring

JGlanton's favorite basketball player.

Marco Belinelli - Hornets - 3.4/expiring

He played well last season next to Paul.

Shannon Brown - Suns - 3.5/expiring

Not getting minutes, good defender.

Nick Young - Wizards - 3.7/expiring

On his walk year, they pretty much have to trade him.

damn, that's a huge contract. I can't believe the Bobcats were able to move that.

Can we combine the TPE with a player - say Gomes and TPE for a 7.8 million player?

Can't combine TPE's, but we can combine players with the TPE and make two seperate trades.

I still think Grant Hill and Anthony Parker would be good fits. They're both expiring.

We could move Foye + Cook for Hill + cash.

A couple of guys on Dyce's list probably can't be had without giving up Bledsoe, they won't be traded for a TPE straight up.

Stephen Jackson would be a fantastic fit for us, but I just don't see how his contract can work in our payroll structure. Maybe if we can send Gomes back to MIL, but it would still be a tough fit financially.

What about John Salmons? The Kings aren't doing too well, and could use the expiring deals if we send Cook, Gomes and maybe throw in Tompkins. We keep talking about Bledsoe, but young rookies with small contracts and decent potential might make a team like the Kings happy. This gets us the SG we need, the Kings get expiring deals and even a cheap back up PF.

This trade won't effect us at all. We keep Bledsoe and Foye,  keep the TPE's and get rid of dead weight.

I'd love to have Nick Young. I think he could really do well on a veteran team. He however can veto any trade and loses his bird rights if he excepts a trade.

I'd love to find a way to land Wes Matthews. He's having an off season in Portland and fans aren't happy with his game. People on trad boards have debated back and forth on a Mo for Matthews trade.

Dunleavy, Young, Wright, and Rush would all be good fits.

I also think Mayo could be had. He's restricted after this season and I really don't see the Grizzlies being able to match a contract for him. They have a ton of money tied up in Gasol, Randolph, Gay, and Conley. I think they'd be willing to move him for a future 1st or a young player on a rookie deal (Bledsoe) that they won't have to worry about paying for a while.

memphis will not give up mayo..theyve said numerous times that they wont trade him...i would also love to try to get mathews that would be a huge get..

i would not want dunleavy the guy is basically like shaq at the end of his career he plays like 1 out of 3 games..hes always hurt

as for young hes from here..he would definetly accept a trade here and give up his bird rights to come home..he grew up here and played college ball at usc..and he could start at 2 for us..

actually his contract for next year is 2 mill less than mo's at 6.5 mill..thats only 2 mill more than gomes..

but as much as i want mathews id take batum also..i doubt theyre gonna keep batum past this year..batums agent and him are fed up with dealing with the blazers and will want a good sized contract..maybe a bledsoe, foye, gomes, future picks for those 2?

Wes Mathews, the 13 PER Wes Mathews? He's not that good.  He's OK, but not as good as the other people mentioned in this thread.

13ppg is really all we need to fill in Billups scoring. Billups was averaging just less than 15ppg. Not getting JR was a blessing really because the dude jacks up a lot of shots. Something we really don't need. We need someone that can quietly score points. So as long as we can get someone that can catch a shoot for a good percentage and drive to basket sometimes and draw the foul, and most importantly, play defense, I'll be happy.

JR Smith would have made us really good provided he played with the TEAM, I'm interested to see how they play in New York when they aren't allowed to play with 2 balls.

I want someone that isn't flashy, but more consistant than Foye. I cringe when I check the box score and see him with 2 points and 0-7 shooting during the game. Foye is a good back up, but if we're going to start a back up, he better be a good defender, I'm not sold on Foye yet, he's better at D than Billups, but I think we can get better in the open market.

Mistwell..do u even watch basketball or know who mathews is besides looking at his stats online??the guy was a huge scorer for utah before going to portland and last year even when brandon roy was healthy they had mathews starting over him..sure he's having a rougher start of the season than he has before but the guy is a tonnn better than foye and an actual starting 2..

I would love to have Mike Dunleavy Jr.

He'd be the perfect player for the system. He's a saavy player that can shoot and knows where to be on the floor.

I'd imagine that he and Chris Paul would fit together immediatetly, and his terrible, terrible defense can be mitigated some by our bigs...

How hilarious would it be for the Clippers to FINALLY sign Dunleavy Jr. after his father spent his entire time here as GM blatantly trying to aquire his son.

He's born and raised in So. Cal.

I don't think he would veto a trade from his current situation to starting SG on the 2012 Clippers.....

just sayin...
